Firmware release for Kindle 2, DX

Amazon has released a new version of the Kindle software that is said to allow .pdf files to be read on the device and to dramatically increase battery life.
Your Kindle 2 or DX should update automatically (it is said it needs to be idle and wireless turned on for the process to work), but the impatient can do the update manually; the process is quite easy.

The new screen rotation feature can be handy. It is easily activated by hitting the text button on your Kindle (the same one you hit for changing text size) and selecting the direction in which the screen should rotate.
